Office of the Superintendent

Dear District 157-C families,

As we wrap up the end of the school year, there is so much to be thankful for: our supportive Frankfort community, the ability to offer robust curriculum and extracurricular options for both in-person and remote learners, and the District teachers and staff who work tirelessly for our students, to name a few. Throughout the school year, our educators and students have risen to the challenge of teaching, learning, and growing during a global pandemic, supporting one another every step of the way. It is moving to see how the Frankfort community has rallied behind one another, coming together to support each other.

Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, we are able to celebrate the end of the year with special activities and field days for all grade levels. Our graduating 8th graders head to Six Flags next week and we look forward to celebrating their accomplishments during graduation tomorrow, Saturday, May 29 at 10:00 am. Graduation will be held at the Lincoln-Way Central football stadium. Students and staff alike look forward to the celebrations in May and June and we are so grateful to be able to provide memorable experiences for everyone involved.

This Memorial Day weekend, I hope you and your families find much-needed rest and spend time in reflection about the sacrifices made for our country’s freedom. In May, the Hickory Creek band and orchestra came together for a virtual Memorial Day tribute to the fallen and the ceremony will air on FCTV Channel 6 and the Village of Frankfort's YouTube channel on Monday, May 31.

The last day of student attendance will be Friday, June 4. We look forward to ending the school year on a high note, with many chances to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and staff. We are inspired by the resilience and strength shown by the 157-C community and are incredibly grateful for your support, flexibility, and compassion during this unprecedented year.

Last month’s regular Board of Education meeting was held Wednesday, May 19. At the meeting, the District Administrative team presented the 2021 State of the District and we are proud that all three District 157-C have earned an exemplary rating from the State of Illinois for the third consecutive year. Please take a few minutes to view the presentation on our website.

We will be offering enrichment opportunities throughout the summer with our “One Book, One School” program. Teachers have created activities for each grade level and we are excited to partner with the Frankfort Public Library’s summer reading program. More information will be available from your child’s teacher.

As we head into the final days of this school year, please review and complete registration for the 2021-2022 school year. Families who are new to the Frankfort School District 157-C community are asked to call the District Office at 815-469-5922 to schedule an appointment for new student registration. Families should bring the student’s legal birth certificate and three proofs of residency, one primary and two secondary, to the registration. The 2021-2022 school calendar is also available on our website here.

Thank you for working with the District throughout this year as we have navigated the COVID-19 pandemic together. The support we have received from the community and families has been unparalleled and we could not have had such a successful school year without you.

This will be my final letter to the families of 157-C, as the end of the school year marks the completion of my 40th year in education. While my journey has been extremely fulfilling, I could not have chosen a better District to end my career. I have confidence that Doug Wernet, Superintendent of Schools effective July 1, 2021, will lead the District well and will uphold our tradition of excellence.

Have a wonderful summer!
Dr. Maura J. Zinni
